Degree and area of specialization:
Bachelor's degree required, in nursing or health-related field preferred.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Experience in collecting data and/or implementing protocols for research studies is highly desirable. Experience with phlebotomy, taking body measurements and using ECG equipment preferred. The successful candidate will also have strong people and teamwork skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, value accuracy and confidentiality, have a professional manner and appearance and have a valid Wisconsin driver's license with a good driving record.
Principal duties:
The Research Examiner is responsible for conducting the clinical examination of individuals taking
part in a longitudinal study of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. Once trained, this position will
function quite independently under the supervision of the Project Director.
The incumbent
will be responsible for conducting and assisting with coordination of examinations at clinic sites
including the Milwaukee and Appleton areas, and coordinating retinal photography at several off
site clinic locations. The Examiner will review exam protocols with subjects and respond to any
questions asked, oversee informed consent, monitor the participant's health during the exam
procedures and review and report exam results to the Project Director.
The incumbent will
also participate in patient retention activities, including development and implementation of
annual questionnaires. The Examiner is asked to participate in protocol development, documentation
and monitoring, and to solve scientific problems related to complex study guidelines. The Examiner
will also manage specimen processing and storage activities in the lab and maintain supplies and
resources for the exam and lab. Additionally, this position will be responsible for implementing
and evaluating quality control measures for clinical data and specimen collection, reporting
quality control results and assisting with data management. This position requires a flexible
schedule. Extensive travel is
required.
