Medical and/or clinical trial
experience
Experience in support enterprise-wide high availability databases, image databases,
and data
warehouses
Principal duties:
The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS), Fundus Photograph Reading Center (FPRC)
provides medical expertise and specialized diagnostic services in support of clinical trials
research and epidemiologic studies of eye and retinal diseases. The FPRC serves as on of the
top-ranking eye diagnostic service centers within the United States and provides service to the
pharmaceutical industry, academic institutions, as well as small business development centers
throughout the United States. The FPRC provides medical expertise and support to federally-funded
and sponsor-funded research programs and clinical trials studies. The FPRC in partnership with
the National Institutes of Health(NIH) has developed accepted scientific methodologies for the
analysis of ophthalmic images. Using these methodologies, the FPRC produces data through the
analysis of ophthalmic images for emerging treatments of eye diseases.
This position
reports to the Sr. Information Processing Consultant DOVS - Fundus Photograph Reading
Center
Principal Duties:
- Provide comprehensive support for proprietary ophthalmic image
handling systems through collaboration with sponsors to develop requirements and procedures for
installing, evaluating, monitoring, using, and troubleshooting database on ad-hoc reporting
procedures. Provide database support for a research group conducting large clinical research
trials/studies relevant to epidemiologic studies of the eye including retinal diseases, diabetic
eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, uveitis, AIDS, retinal vein occlusion and
neovascular eye disease.
The qualified candidate will be involved with the scientific
research theories relevant to epidemiologic projects.
- Provide consultation and training for
faculty, researchers, and staff on hardware and software support, access to database systems, use
and data transfer, as well as hardware and software standards for specific ophthalmic research and
educational projects to principal investigators and staff.
Maintain and support an
environment used for biomedical research, clinical trials and educational projects:
- Conduct
and monitor regular data backups; restore data when necessary
- Monitor resource usage; update
hard/software
- Assess database security and recommend action on security issues
- Train
users on the use of SQL and ad-hoc reporting tools
- Provide consultation and training for
faculty, researchers and staff on use and data transfer as well as hard/software standards for
specific ophthalmic research including but not limited to retinal diseases, diabetic eye disease,
age-related macular degeneration, uveitis, AIDS, retinal vein occlusion and neovascular eye
disease, and educational projects
- Maintain and enhance group database infrastructure

Develop physical and logical database models and accompanying database views to use for image
analysis for specific ophthalmic related questions
- Program in SQL including stored procedures
and
triggers
