2+ years of post degree laboratory experience. Experience in molecular/recombinant DNA research, protein expression and analysis and cell culture.
Principal duties:
The Cardiovascular Medicine section of the Department of Medicine is currently seeking a research specialist to join a multi-disciplinary laboratory group investigating the molecular mechanisms of normal and abnormal cardiac electrophysiology. The primary focus of this position is to assist and perform molecular and biochemical experiments on potassium and other ion channels as well as accessory proteins. To this end, the candidate will be expected to utilize several techniques, including molecular cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, Western blot and co-immunoprecipitation of proteins, heterologous expression of proteins, as well as maintenance of mammalian cell lines. The candidate will need to perform additional techniques, including patch clamping and working with cardiac myocytes. This position will function as the lab manager and will be responsible for general laboratory management, literature searches, supply ordering, inventory maintenance, material distribution and record keeping. This position will also be supervising undergraduate students.
