Principal duties:
The Outreach Program Manager will lead outreach and development efforts for the UW Carbone Cancer
Center (UWCCC). Under the direction of the UWCCC Director, and in collaboration with the UWCCC
advisory committee and the UW Foundation, the Outreach Program Manager will manage public
visibility, community education, and donor relations.
Annual Outreach Campaign & Donor
Program Management
1. Design, lead, implement and oversee annual outreach and development
campaign for the UWCCC in conjunction with efforts put forth by the UW Foundation.
2.
Determine the success of existing donor development methods by assessing fund raising goals and
objectives achieved and measuring effectiveness of fundraising materials and participant response.
Create and propose additional cancer-related donor programs to augment current efforts. Supervise
the implementation of new donor programs.
3. Manage an aggressive donor acquisition
program through the administration of direct mail solicitations and other means. Identify sources
of support through prospect research and background information surveys. Examine names acquired
and study giving histories to develop a protocol for follow-up appeals. Analyze benefits of each
program by comparing returns received, with the target population, to provide more successful
solicitations in the future.
4. Determine appropriate timing, resources and management
methods for donor solicitations and supervise campaigns throughout the year. Estimate the expected
percent of return and cost effectiveness to determine feasibility of each method.

Cultivate donor prospects by proposing and implementing receptions, donor related events and
programs which will distinguish between giving levels and encourage donors to move up in the
structure of giving which will in turn increase contributions to the UWCCC. Develop positive
relationships with donors by responding to their individual needs and requests. Understand when to
pass donors to the UW Foundation.
6. Support the UW Foundation development staff by
identifying potential major donors through analysis of database contributions. Develop progress
reports which monitor how contributions have been utilized and recommend where additional support
would be directed within the UWCCC cancer research program.
7. Gather contribution
information and study the feasibility of donor recognition events and programs to increase the
number of donors to the UWCCC. Define realistic goals, objectives and time line as well as monitor
expenses and budgets.
8. Analyze the designation of contributions to the Cancer Center
that will be maintained in funds at the UW Foundation. In conjunction with the UWCCC Director and
the UW Foundation, determine when the creation of a new fund is necessary to ensure proper
accountability with respect to the donors' wishes.
Events & Stewardship
1. Oversee
cancer center events and donor stewardship program. Plan, implement and design donor stewardship
program providing donors with a consistent awareness about the UWCCC to ensure they remain
connected.
2. Function as primary contact for UWCCC physicians and researchers interested
in initiating external funding for specified research projects or programs. Determine donor
interest and convey the impact of potential gifts for physician or researcher.
3. Develop
and manage customized procedures for processing and accounting for donations that are responsive
to the individual physician or researcher's situation.
3. Partner with the UW Foundation
to develop strategies for stewardship of Cancer Center donors and funds.
Community
Visibility & Education
1. Provide leadership and direction targeted toward establishing
cancer-related public education programs with statewide and local organizations.
2.
Identify and maintain library of educational materials and information highlighting current cancer
research, treatment and prevention opportunities available at the UWCCC to be used at community
events.
3. Work closely with health-related organizations in selecting and providing
up-to-date cancer information and services for residents in outlying communities. Measure the
appropriateness of information presented by conducting follow-up discussions with recipients and
organizations to determine accuracy and effectiveness, and ensure that it reaches those most in
need.
Public Relations
1. Assist public relations manager in developing new initiatives
to increase public awareness and visibility.
2. Work with UWCCC and UWHC leadership to
establish goals for new programming. Identify new programs and publicity opportunities and asses
their potential impact on Cancer Center visibility, as well as the value of pursuing new
directions. Establish a priority that considers effective utilization of limited resources.
3. Utilizing the Cancer Center's mission and knowledge of operations, work with Public
Relations Manager and UWHC Public Affairs on media announcements for print, TV and radio for cancer
center events and programs. Investigate advertising platforms appropriate for individual events or
initiatives and prepare advertising concepts. Submit publicity proposals and determine final
plans.
Supervise Staff
1. Hire, train and supervise Outreach Specialist(s). Oversee
daily activities of this position to ensure goals and performance levels are being met.
This
position is expected to follow the policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards for excellence
and professionalism established by the UWCCC and the University of
Wisconsin.
