Degree and area of specialization:
B.S.degree in Biological Science, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Two years of work experience in a biology research lab is required. The candidate is also required
to have experience with cell culture, RT-PCR, Western blot, immunohistology, and other molecular
biology techniques. Previous work experience with setting up a new lab is desirable. The candidate
will work closely with the principle investigator (PI) and other lab fellows and thus good
interpersonal relationship skills are
required.
Principal duties:
The newly established Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Laboratory at the Department of
Orthopedics and Rehabilitation is currently recruiting a Laboratory Technician to assist the PI in
setting up the lab and developing the research focusing on stem cell-based musculoskeletal tissue
engineering and cell therapy for orthopedic applications. The Laboratory Technician will work on
the projects directed by the PI and will be expected to conduct experiments and analyze research
results. In addition, the Lab Technician will participate in scientific seminars and contribute to
weekly lab meetings.
More specifically, the Lab Technician will perform the following
duties:
- Conduct cell culture work and experiments.
- Perform analytical assays, such as
RT-PCR, histology, immunohistochemistry, and Immunoblotting.
- Manage lab
equipment.
- Oversee the inventory of general lab supplies, such as chemicals, reagents,
pipettes, and flasks.
- Place lab purchase order.
- Maintain and update lab
protocols
- Assist with the preparation of research grants and manuscripts.
