Board certified or eligible by the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
At least 3 years of experience in human histocompatibility testing services with an emphasis on molecular HLA testing and test development preferred. Candidates for appointment as associate professor (CHS) or professor (CHS) will possess documentable scholarly credentials per established School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to senior rank on the CHS track.
Principal duties:
The HLA scientist candidate will serve as the Director of the Histocompatibility Laboratory. The
Director will have overall responsibility for serological and molecular typing services in support
of the University of Wisconsin Transplant Service. The successful candidate will be a member of the
Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and also will have a close affiliation with the
Department of Surgery Transplant Division. Supervision of new test development in support of
clinical services and the clinical laboratories strategic plan is also expected. The candidate will
participate in the accreditation process as well as represent the laboratory in scientific and
organizational participation in ASHI. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to
the mission of the department via active participation in basic, clinical and/or translational
research projects of the department and in training of residents, fellows and medical students,
mentoring of trainees and participation in continuing medical education
programs.
