Degree and area of specialization:
Ph.D. in electrical engineering or related discipline with an emphasis on electric power transmission and distribution.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Minimum of five years experience in engineering research and/or practice where the applicant planned, designed, implemented or managed electrical engineering projects. It is essential that the applicant has detailed knowledge and experience with the implementation and management of the latest technology.
Principal duties:
Become a member of the Department of Engineering Professional Development in the College of
Engineering. The department annually conducts several hundred technology-oriented continuing
education programs in Madison, throughout the U.S. and over the Internet. The selected candidates
principal responsibilities are to:
1.) Develop a series of successful professional
development programs that focus on electric power
transmission and distribution. Activities
include identifying, organizing, promoting, delivering and
evaluating continuing professional
education offered as seminars, distance learning programs, and
contract courses. Specific topic
areas are added or revised in response to educational needs.
2.) Develop a research program
in electric power and a record of accomplishment that supports the
above activity and is suitable
for earning tenure from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Activities include: seeking out
new and innovative ways to provide continuing education to
department clientele and others;
maintaining educational programs that are financially self supporting;
procuring funding from
external sources to support research activities; developing and
maintaining relationships with
other university departments and various outside associations,
organizations, and government
agencies for the purpose of maintaining current knowledge,
developing program content, and
investigating emerging areas of research. This position may be
jointly appointed with another
department, if appropriate. University and community service will be expected as
appropriate.
