Degree and area of specialization:
Ph.D. in nutritional science, health science or related field is required.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
At least two to three years of research experience in an academic medical setting with experience in clinical nutrition and knowledge of regulatory requirements. Must have outstanding administrative skills, organizational abilities, and computer skills.
Principal duties:
The Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery, is looking to hire a Scientist who will
work with the Principle Investigator on a well established research program that studies high
nutritional risk in surgical patients and measures the clinical response to specific therapy
designed to reduce complications. The incumbent will work to update and improve an already
existing clinical database for monitoring study results. They will be responsible for maintaining
all patient-related research documentation, as well as create IRB protocols and maintain IRB
approval by submitting continuing review documentation. In addition, this position will work
independently and consent patients for research studies. The incumbent will be involved in the
generation of research questions, execution of studies, and evaluation of research data in
collaboration with biostatisticians. The successful candidate, in conjunction with the PI, will
write grant applications for extramural funding to support the program. The candidate will also be
expected to publish and present research results at local, regional and national meetings.
