Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Minimum of 6-8 years of experience working with students and have a familiarity with Wisconsin agriculture. Demonstrated familiarity and understanding of the social, economic, cultural, and other factors that affect the educational progress of program participants. Evidence of ability to motivate, supervise and delegate to staff. Demonstrated commitment to innovation, continuous learning and improvement. Experience managing budgets preferred.

Principal duties:

The Director develops a vision and strategic plans for the Short Course program following the collection of feedback from the faculty/staff Short Course committee. This position is responsible for providing leadership in the development and implementation of new short course programs for a diverse clientele. Research, develop, deliver and evaluate distance education initiatives. Direct successful fund raising and development strategies for short course programs with the assistance from the UW Foundation staff. Set program goals and priorities for continued development and promotion of the Green Industry Initiative for Short Course. Establish direction and leadership to the Short Course program manager in oversight and management of ongoing short course activities, faculty recruitment, budget, personnel, program development and delivery and residence life facilities. Provide direction for the program manager and Short Course committee on student/client service issues. Provide leadership for curriculum review and development and serve as liaison with departments on course and curriculum offerings. With the Short Course committee, establish program goals and policies pertaining to new program initiatives.

Additional Information:

Experience with agriculture is preferred.
