Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
- Prefix assignment determined by years of relevant work experience.
- 3 to 5 years experience
as a Physician Assistant is required .
- Person to provide outreach, preventative health care
and medical care to patients in the Fox Valley area.
- Bilingual English/Spanish or
English/Hmong would be
beneficial.
Principal duties:
The Clinical Physician Assistant collaborates with physicians, counselors, and other health care
clinicians in the care of patients as a colleague with expertise in ambulatory care, participates
in the instructional programs of the Department of Family Medicine, and contributes to outreach,
research and scholarly activities appropriate to the mission of the Department of Family
Medicine.
Utilizing a physician assistant/medical model, the Clinical Physician Assistant
will deliver patient care for a full range of patient problems at the clinic. The clinical
practice will include assessment of the condition and need of the patient, patient education,
counseling, anticipatory guidance and direct patient care. The physician assistant will provide
primary medical services emphasizing the diagnosis and management of acute and urgent diseases
following established standards and practices as well as health promotion and disease prevention.
90% Primary Medical Services.
1. Obtain complete medical history and physical data
on patients.
2. Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and
therapeutic procedures as needed.
3. Order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic
procedures.
4. Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information.
Follow up on all tests ordered.
5. Synthesize data to determine preliminary diagnosis and
therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
6. Consult on a regular basis and on an
as needed basis with the physician staff per supervision agreement following
accepted protocols.
7. All encounters with patients will be reviewed and countersigned by
physician staff.
8. When the diagnosis and/or management of an acute or chronic disease
requires a higher level of decision making,
i.e., moderate or high
complexity, after discussion with the physician staff, a decision should be made to
the appropriateness of referral/evaluation/follow-up by a resident or faculty physician.
9. Participate in patient care conferences and the formulation of individual care
plan.
10. Prescribe medication as appropriate per approved formularies.
11. Administer
medications and injections according to physician and/or regulatory guidelines.
12. Instruct
patient and family regarding medication and treatment instructions.
13. Interview and advise
patients regarding health and illness prevention.
14. Participate in the development and
implementation of medical policies, procedures and medical standards of care.
15. Participate
in the design, implementation, and review of clinical outcomes.
5% Administrative
Responsibilities.
1. Participate in quality improvement committees and activities per
clinic requirements.
2. Serve on clinic and residency program committees.
3. Provide
leadership and/or expertise to community organizations.
5% Educational
Responsibilities.
1. Participate in the education of Family Medicine resident
physicians or other health care students by:
a) informal teaching through
demonstration and through shared responsibility for patient care;
b) formal
teaching in rounds, seminars, consultation groups, and other teaching sessions and involvement in
curriculum planning and development;
c) modeling of the Physician Assistant role in patient care;
d) collaborative
planning, provision and evaluation of student learning experiences, including evaluation of
Family Medicine residents in training;
e) clinical and/or didactic education.
