The appointment may be made at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor and with a salary commensurate to the candidate's qualifications.

Applicants should have strong records of achievement in scholarship and/or creative practice relative to their experience. Candidates' work may focus on any aspect of Visual Culture, but must demonstrate a serious commitment to interdisciplinary research. We will consider all candidates whose work addresses issues of vision and visuality and whose work will complement, but not duplicate, the research areas of our current cluster hire faculty. The University is particularly interested in attracting candidates whose research and teaching interests engage issues of difference or identity, including consideration of the body, the senses, globalism, or transnationalism.

New hires will join the existing Visual Culture Cluster and should be prepared to participate in the development of new curricula in visual culture studies as well as assume a leadership role in the activities of the campus-wide visual culture research group. In addition, the new hire will need to meet the teaching, research, and service expectations of their home department(s) and the University. This hire is part of the Cluster Hiring Initiative at the University of Wisconsin-Madison that was developed to support new areas of knowledge, address complex societal issues, and provide collaborative research opportunities.
