Degree and area of specialization:
D.V.M. required. Candidate that holds a DVM and Ph.D. desirable.
License/certification:
WI license will need to be obtained. American College of Veterinary Board Certification desirable. Board eligibility required.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Experience working with laboratory animals and scientific investigators in a research setting preferred.
Principal duties:
70% Necropsy/histopathology performed on animals submitted from animal colonies and
consultation.
15% Research consultations and participation in studies.
10% Assist in
oversight of Milwaukee Zoo (MCZ) and zoo pathology resident.
5% University
responsibilities that include: teaching labs as needed; select agent necropsies done for
investigators as needed; teaching tissue collection classes and working with individuals (graduate
students and investigators) requesting pathology consultation and serving as a resource for
graduate students and investigators for pathology and research related information and expertise
for grants and research
projects.
Additional Information:
Candidate should be familiar with lab animal diseases/pathology and have knowledge of research techniques. Desirable for candidate to be versed in select agent rules. Must be able to be certified in select agent use.
