Degree and area of specialization:
Ph.D. or equivalent in anthropology, history, political science, sociology, religious studies, middle eastern studies, south asia studies, or any related or relevant field.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Teaching experience preferred. Candidates for tenured position must have demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarly research and service.
Principal duties:
Conduct research on general topic of Islam and society using methods appropriate to individual's specific interests and expertise. Participate in scholarly organizations locally and nationally. Teach courses on topics of Islam and society at graduate and undergraduate levels; 50% of teaching must be in courses housed in or cross-listed with Religious Studies. Serve on departmental and campus-wide committees, and other service as appropriate. Participation in Religious Studies events is essential.
Additional Information:
The tenure home will reside in a department appropriate to the candidate's discipline with 50% teaching responsibilities in Religious Studies including rotations in RS 600: Religion in Critical Perspective.
