Official title:

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR(C30NN) or ASSISTANT PROFESSOR(C40NN)

Degree and area of specialization:

MD with formal (MS level) training in medical or clinical informatics, or have a technical undergraduate degree such as in computer science, physics, mathematics or engineering. Substantial experience and track record might be considered in lieu of formal training in areas cited.

License/certification:

If a practicing clinician, eligibility for Wisconsin Medical Licensure.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Experience preferred for assistant professor rank. Associate professor candidates must possess experience and scholarly credentials for appointment with tenure at UW-Madison.

Principal duties:

The primary responsibility will be to develop a program in medical/clinical informatics in both research and training. The Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics provides leadership in the School of Medicine and Public Health, the Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center and the new Institute for Clinical and Translational Research. Projects include informatics infrastructure for clinical trials, data warehouses across a network of four major clinical centers with the State of Wisconsin as well as many smaller clinical practices.

In addition, the incumbent will help develop a graduate training program in medical/clinical informatics initially at the Master's level, short courses and workshops for medical fellows, and other post doctoral training.

The incumbent will need to develop his or her own research program in clinical informatics, seeking external funding once some progress has been made.

Depending on medical training and certification, this position may be joint with a clinical department.

The successful candidate will also participate in professional, public and university service appropriate to the faculty rank.
