Degree and area of specialization:
BA/BS required. BA/BS in medical or human health science or related field preferred.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification required.
Excellent oral and written communication
skills required.
1 - 3 years progressively responsible experience in a central- or
hospital-based tumor registry program is required.
1 - 3 years experience related to the
coordination of quality control procedures as applied to health information data and the
performance of critical review, editing and coding of the data is required.
1 - 3 years
experience with cancer nomenclature and classification systems, including ICD-O and ICD-9 is
required.
1 - 3 years experience with the development and performance of quality control on a
large database and with computer data editing is desired.
Excellent computer skills and work
experience in Microsoft software products including Word,Excel, Powerpoint and Access; and
knowledge of CDC RegistryPlus software is desired.
6 months - 1 year supervisory and training
experience is desired.
Knowledge of standard cancer reporting requirements desired.
Education
and/or experience with, and understanding of, anatomy and physiology are
required.
Principal duties:
This position is part of an outreach partnership between the UW Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive
Cancer Center, Cancer Control Program (UWCCC) and the Wisconsin Division of Public Health,
Wisconsin Cancer Reporting System (WCRS).
Implement WCRS education and training for the
Wisconsin facility auditing program (designed to assess the identification and record accuracy of
the incidence of cancer occurance in Wisconsin). For this auditing program, develop and manage
education and training sessions for state hospitals and clinics. Collaborate with site trainers.
Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with all active reporting
facilities and physicians, Wisconsin hospital cancer programs, other states' registries, and the
National Program of Cancer Registries.
Plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate all WCRS
quality control activities across the state to ensure compliance with standards for the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention National Program of Cancer Registry and the WI Department of Health
and Family Services. This includes hospital case-finding and re-abstracting audits, record error
resolution, record linkage and consolidation.
Design a management system and QA
organizational structure. Plan and develop techniques for data evaluation from all reporting
sources. Develop and monitor feedback to all reporting facilities on the timeliness, completeness,
and quality of incoming data. Oversee other WCRS staff in performing data editing and record
consolidation functions. Advise registry staff on complex coding issues and the interpretation of
difficult questions of data content.
Perform final edit of incoming cases, person-matching,
and tumor consolidation for WCRS consolidated database. Analyze data for logic errors and/or data
entry errors. Evaluate the validity of the data and initiate necessary corrections.
Maintain confidentiality of all registry data at WCRS according to state and federal
guidelines. Maintain Certified Tumor Registrar certification as required by federal guidelines.
