MD or DO required. Advanced degree in public health (MPH or comparable) preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
At least 2 years of public health or primary care experience is required. An advanced degree in public health (MPH or other similar) and substantial public health experience is preferred. Appointment at rank of professor or associate professor requires scholarly credentials for rank as outlined in UWSMPH guidelines for promotion or appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor on the Clinical Health Sciences track.
Principal duties:
The position will work primarily at the City of Milwaukee Health Department. Key additional work
responsibilities will occur at the Center for Urban Population Health in Milwaukee, and at the UW
School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) in Madison, Wisconsin.
Administration: A key
responsibility will be serving as the Associate Medical Director for the City of Milwaukee Health
Department (MHD) under the direction of Geoffrey Swain, MD, Chief Medical Officer/Medical Director,
City of Milwaukee Health Department and Associate Professor, Department of Family Medicine. This
responsibility includes providing medical oversight and support to the MHD's Immunization and
Communicable Disease programs, such as development and maintenance of up-to-date medical protocols
and medical supervision of nursing staff; as well as program development, policy development, and
medical consultation to these and other MHD program areas upon request.
Education: In
conjunction with the Center for Urban Population Health (CUPH), this position will develop
appropriately focused teaching and research opportunities for medical students, public health
students, residents and fellows to work with community health clinicians, researchers, community
health educators, MHD program staff, and others so that they will be prepared to provide
state-of-the-art health interventions tailored to the specific needs of the communities they
eventually serve. He / she will be expected to participate in the teaching of residents, medical
students, MPH students, and/or other learners, as assigned, primarily in Milwaukee and at times in
Madison. Regular participation in general family medicine conferences is expected.
Research and Scholarly Activities: A component of this position's effort will be assigned
to CUPH and will work with Ron A. Cisler, PhD, Director, Center for Urban Population Health and
Associate Professor, Department of Population Health Sciences and Dennis Baumgardner, MD, Associate
Director for Health Services Research, Center for Urban Population Health and Professor, Department
of Family Medicine, to further his or her research activities and related special projects. These
research activities may include decision analysis, qualitative analysis, risk measurement,
behavioral assessment, and the evaluating and interventions of physician wellness, and will include
identification and acquisition of extramural funding support.
Other duties may be assigned
and there is an expectation of participation in other administrative, teaching, and research
activities of CUPH, DFM, and UW
SMPH.
Additional Information:
This is a public health position, not a primary care position. This appointment
will be in the Department of Family Medicine (DFM). A secondary appointment in a to-be-determined
department, based upon candidate credentials, is optional and could include Medicine, Pediatrics,
Obstetrics and Gynecology, Population Health Sciences or other departments.
Compensation is
competitive and will be negotiated at time of offer. Excellent benefits, and moving expenses
paid.
Support for this position is dependent upon ongoing support from the MHD and from the
Center for Urban Population
Health.
