Degree and area of specialization:
Must be a physician assistant who holds current NCCPA certification and be eligible for
licensure;
At least a Master's degree required. Doctoral degree
preferred.
License/certification:
Must have current Physician Assistant License in the State of Wisconsin
before employment start
date.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Must have a demonstrated track record of success and previous academic and clinical
experience;
Demonstrated strong leadership, management, and human relations skills. Candidates
for associate professor or professor rank on this collateral faculty track must meet established
SMPH criteria for rank per Guidelines for Promotion and Appointment on the Clinical Health Sciences
(CHS)

Principal duties:
Director of Physician Assistant Program
SUMMARY
The Program Director is responsible for the
overall organization and administration, curriculum, clinical practice, evaluation, and
accreditation of the program. The director oversees and collaborates with all faculty members,
medical director, staff, and
students within the program and represents the program at the
departmental, SMPH, and Campus level as well as to the
community at large.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Program Director is responsible for the following duties and
responsibilities
1. Preparing the program for annual outcomes assessments, accreditation
inspections, and evaluation. The Director is an
effective liaison with other disciplines and
organizations to insure effective collaborations leading to a high quality
educational and
clinical experience.
2. Responsible for the curriculum of the program through close
collaboration with the faculty and medical director. Verify
that such curriculum is exceeding
the minimum standards for accreditation by the ARC-PA. Maintains statewide program
presence
through distance education consistent with the Wisconsin Idea. Oversees/conducts clinical
preceptorship site visits.
The Director will be responsible for insuring the transition to a
Masters degree program.
3. Provide leadership and actively participates in securing extramural
funding and the development of a research focus for
the program. Facilitate the development of
faculty/staff research and publications.
4. Oversee all program faculty and instructional staff.
This includes:
. recruiting and retaining quality faculty and staff;
. encouraging and
supporting outstanding faculty teaching, scholarly activity, and community service;
. working
with faculty to determine faculty teaching, clinical, research, and committee
responsibilities;
. observing and evaluating individual faculty performance within the program
through annual performance appraisals;
. initiating promotion recommendations and recommending
salary adjustments, and
. ensuring that faculty remain NCCPA certified, continue to develop
professionally, and are clinically active based on the
guidelines developed by the
program.
5. Oversee student affairs activities including working with committees and other SMPH
and Campus units to ensure that the
logistics of enrollment, registration, financial aid, etc.
work smoothly. The director should actively provide leadership to
students, insure excellence of
the student experience, and develops programs to cultivate alumni relationships.
6. Prepare,
propose and administer the program budget; maintain essential department records; and supervises
the medical
director, clerical, and/or technical staff within the department.
7. Develop and
implement, in collaboration with faculty and staff, strategic initiatives and action plans for the
program
ensuring that the program is of high quality to attract the best students.
8.
Actively participate in the UW Department of Family Medicine organizational structure and is a
member of the Executive
Council.
9. Promote professional development opportunities within the
program by leading faculty to maintain and enhance classroom
instructor skills and to
participate in community service oriented projects and/or professional meetings.
Stimulates
faculty/staff research and publications. Encourage program faculty to participate in
state, regional and national health care
organizations, committees and local community service
activities.
10. Participate in professional organizations, scholarly activity and community
service.
11. Perform other job-related duties or special projects as required.
12. Small
amount of clinical practice is
required.
