Degree and area of specialization:
PhD in a Social Science such as Georgraphy, Natural Resources, Political Science, Sociology, Resource Economics or Policy, or related human dimensions field is required.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Knowledge and skill in applying social science concepts, models and theories to the study of human behavior and interactions with natural resources, especially forests and wildlife, is essential. Candidates must demonstrate a proficiency in teaching, attracting extramural funding and publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
Principal duties:
Develop a strong research program with a focus in the human dimensions of ecosystem management. The successful candidate also will be expected to teach 2 to 3 courses in resource policy, forest/ecosystem management, economics or subject matter related to human dimensions at the undergraduate and graduate level. Additional responsibilities include participation in faculty-led graduate seminars; advising undergraduate majors; and mentoring masters and doctoral students. The incumbent must be able to collaborate on a wide array of multidisciplinary, natural resources management projects involving other scientists, and to perform university and community service as appropriate.
