Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Fellowship research experience in stem cells for orthopedic connective tissue(s) (cartilage, bone, tendon, intervertebral discs, etc.) as well as demonstrated success in peer-reviewed publications. If associate professor rank, must meet criteria for tenure rank at UW-Madison.
Principal duties:
The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, seeks applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Primary responsibilities will be to: 1) establish an independent research program at the most advanced edge of orthopedic science, a program that attracts strong external funding and becomes nationally recognized; 2) collaborate with and support the research of orthopedic faculty, residents, and fellows; 3) contribute to the educational program for orthopedic residents in the area of basic biological science; 4) undergraduate and/or graduate teaching, but at a level consistent with the shared appointment; 5) mentoring and advising graduate students and post-doctoral fellows in research. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of both clinical and basic science issues associated with stem cells and tissue regeneration and be able to foster and develop translational, collaborative research between the Departments of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation and Biomedical Engineering, and across campus with researchers in stem cell research, regenerative medicine, and tissue engineering. The successful candidate will also participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the faculty rank.
