Degree and area of specialization:
PhD in biological science field, MD, or MD/PhD.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Significant research experience (minimum 6 years) and expertise in the field of global infectious
disease. Publications in peer reviewed journals are required, as well as an ongoing record of
competitive research funding. Must have a proven track record of networking with collaborators
from academia, industry, and the international scientific community.
Must have academic
experience/credentials that meet criteria for rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure
at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and undergo review by the appropriate divisional tenure
committee.
Principal duties:
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous, independent research program
studying biological threats to international security and health; develop and maintain extramural
funding for his/her research program; teach graduate, undergraduate and/or medical student courses;
develop new courses in his/her area of expertise as appropriate; supervise graduate and
postgraduate research; participate in faculty governance activities in the department, college
and/or University; and participate in the national and international scientific community. The
successful candidate will also participate in professional, public and university service
appropriate to the faculty rank.
This faculty member will serve on the University of
Wisconsin's Global Biological Threats Initiative Steering Committee, and will provide leadership in
developing a framework for interdisciplinary research and teaching focused on biological threats to
international health and
security.
Additional Information:
Ideal candidate should have demonstrated success as an organizer of international collaborative efforts, and be conversant with academic research and policy debates related to emerging biological threats.
