ASSOCIATE RESEARCH SPECIALIST - OPHTHALMOLOGY

Degree and area of specialization:

B.S., biological sciences

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Laboratory experience desired, working knowledge of common recombinant DNA procedures and molecular biology techniques, such as PCR & Northern Blots. Excellent communication skills in English, good interpersonal skills and enjoy working as part of a team. Prior experience in genetics and computer databases valuable.

Principal duties:

Provide technical assistance for research on the molecular genetics of Drosophila visual system. Perform molecular biology techniques such as PCR, Northern Blots, cloning, transfection, sequencing/informatics, and RNA and DNA isolation.
Responsibilities include:
1) maintaining knowledge of the current literature and applying techniques to the research setting;
2) assisting in the development and design of experiments as well as carrying out the experiments;
3) analysis of data;
4) assisting in the preparation of publications and grant applications;
5) general laboratory maintenance, and
6) supervising students

A criminal background check will be conducted prior to hiring.
A period of evaluation will be required
