Degree and area of specialization:
M.S. in biological sciences required; PhD preferred.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Expertise in molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry required; electron microscopy and immunocytochemistry experience desired. Strong organizational skills, goal oriented and team player.
Principal duties:
-Develop and implement experiments designed to study the molecular genetics of vision
in
Drosophila melanogaster.
-Analyze data to assess specific research goals.
-Maintain knowledge
of current literature and apply techniques to the research setting.
-Identify new research
directions and ancillary study opportunities.
-Assume primary authorship responsibilities for
manuscripts related to assigned research.
-Attend and present original data at scientific
meetings at the local, State, and national
level.
-Collaborate with Principal Investigator
in writing and reviewing new grant initiatives
and grant renewals.
-Perform background
literature reviews and contact scientists at collaborative programs
or institutions to evaluate
potential research questions.
-Draft portions of grant applications.
-Write and review budget
and budget justification for new
applications.
