This title normally is targeted toward qualified protected and minority groups. These individuals are enrolled in high school or undergraduate programs and work under the supervision of a mentor. They are assigned to research programs for a learning experience.

Payments made to advanced opportunity participants are fully taxable as wages, and taxes will be withheld from monthly paychecks .

Department Chairperson
Serves as the official channel of communications for all matters affecting the department as a whole, between the department and the chancellor, the dean, other University officials, or departments (FPP 5.31). Honorary Associate/Fellow
This title designates the holder of a fellowship (usually postdoctoral) administered outside the University or a courtesy appointment for a visiting scholar. This temporary appointment is used to provide an official University affiliation and identification without pay.

Pre-College Intern
This title is used for current high school or middle school students participating in a program that is designed to familiarize them with research and the University in general. The students typically are under the supervision of a faculty or academic staff mentor who is matched to the student's academic interest. They may attend weekly seminars, lectures, tours, and/or may participate in tasks related to their learning experience, e.g., one-on-one instruction and communication. Instruction in basic skills may be provided.

If a pre-college intern is paid on an NIH miniority high school student research apprentice grant, s/he must be salaried (hourly, academic or annual basis). If not paid on an NIH grant, either lump sum or salaried basis may be used.
