- Visa Issuance Delays
Many internationals wishing to come to UW-Madison have experienced delays in obtaining their visa at a U.S. Consulate, both for initial entry and for returning to the U.S. after travel abroad. In most instances, the delay is caused by a Visas Mantis Security Advisory Opinion (SAO). The following document was prepared by NAFSA: Association of International Educators to explain the process. While it was written for international student and scholar offices, it contains information that will be of interest to individuals and their departments that are caught in a visa delay. Although nothing can be done to expedite the processing of an individual SAO, the State Department has announced that it is committed to speeding up the process as much as possible in the coming months. In the meantime, this information offers some insight into the process - Immigration Lawyers/Legal Assistance
