| Job Summary: |
This position performs a variety of custodial tasks required in the routine
cleaning and maintenance of university buildings that include custodial tasks
in laboratory/research settings for the majority of the time. Moderately heavy
physical effort is required for some tasks such as scrubbing, emptying rubbish
containers, moving furniture and equipment, etc. Occasional unscheduled
overtime may be required for snow removal and/or emergency cleanup.
Work is performed under the guidance of a Custodial Services Supervisor. This position is required to be able to independently perform work, without on-site supervision in laboratory/research settings. The consequence of error due to actions or decisions made during the cleaning and maintenance of laboratory/research settings, could pose a major risk to safety, equipment, and could result in a substantial risk to millions of dollars and years worth of research done by the University and could delay the development of new medical techniques, engineering technologies, and other benefits of cutting edge research that affect millions of people nation wide. Based upon this risk, these positions require employees be able to speak, read, write and understand verbal instructions in English. Based upon the consequence of error related to potential errors when cleaning
in a laboratory/research setting, these positions require employees be able to
speak, read, write and understand verbal instructions in English. The majority of the employees in these classifications are employed on the second and third shifts. This requires an individual who can adjust to the changes in eating and sleeping schedules. The first week is mandatory training on 2nd shift for non-Physical Plant employees. This position may occasionally be asked to work hours in excess of the normal work shift. Must be willing to work overtime. Most work is performed indoors. However some assignments require going out from building to building, and the employee may be exposed to inclement weather (rain, snow, heat, cold, etc.) | |
