Assistant Professor of Food Safety

Ph.D. in Food Science, Food Microbiology, Food Engineering or related field.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
None beyond that required to obtain the required Ph.D. degree and area of specialization.
Principal duties:
Tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level (approximately 60% research, 40% instruction) specializing in Food Safety. Research areas include, but are not limited to: 1) developing biological, chemical, thermal, or physical means to control pathogenic microorganisms; 2) characterizing the biology of pathogenic microorganisms; or 3) developing the scientific bases for risk management strategies.

Incumbent must: 1) develop a grant supported (e.g., USDA, NSF, NIH) research program and publish in reputable journals; 2) teach an undergraduate course in Food Science and contribute to other courses within the curriculum; demonstrate innovative, student-centered teaching; 3) offer a graduate course in area of expertise; and 4) contribute to outreach, extension and service functions of the Department, College, University and professional societies.

The position carries a commitment to the three functions of resident instruction, research, and outreach/service, as well as professional and university service as appropriate to the position and rank.
