- Evidence of knowledge and demonstrated excellence in distance education.
- Applicants also should show evidence of demonstrated excellence in teaching adults.
Principal duties:
We seek a tenurable or tenure track faculty to provide leadership and contribute to the department's expertise in adult teaching and learning, continuing education, and distance learning. This individual will enhance the department's capacity to conduct research related to continuing education, including distance education. The faculty member will be expected to help develop a Center on Adult Teaching & Learning to provide research on key current and emerging issues in adult teaching and learning and continuing education.

The ideal candidate will:
- Conduct nationally/internationally-recognized research, including grant-funded research.
- Teach, coach, mentor, and serve as a resource for department and other university staff and ad hoc instructors on best practices for teaching adults.
- Build relationships and collaborate on research projects with peers in academic departments, as well as the public and private sector.
- Participate in faculty governance and other university, division, and department service activities.
- Contribute to the profession at the local, state, and national levels.

The Department of Liberal Studies and the Arts (LAAS) delivers hundreds of non-credit courses and programs in a variety of formats, including face-to-face, blended, and online. The division is home to the Distance Education Professional Development program that develops and delivers certificate programs in distance teaching and learning, and hosts the large international Conference on Distance Teaching and Learning annually. We are seeking a tenurable or tenure track faculty member to develop an active program of research and teaching in adult learning, with a focus on continuing education for professional development and/or personal enrichment. Continuing Studies is a revenue generating unit; programs and courses are expected to contribute to the financial sustainability of the department.
