|The University of Wisconsin-Madison General Library System (GLS) seeks an innovative Associate University Librarian (AUL) for Public Services to provide leadership and direction for the policy development and implementation of library services, programs and learning spaces in support of the University's mission and goals.
The Associate University Librarian for Public Services joins the newly formed Library Executive Group consisting of the Vice Provost for Libraries and University Librarian, Associate University Librarian for Technology and Data Services, Associate Librarian for Collection and Research Services, and the Associate Director for Administration.
The AUL provides direction and oversight for GLS libraries and staff including: Business Library, Chemistry Library, Geography Library, Geology Library, College Library (Undergraduate), Mathematics Library, Memorial Library, Physics/Astronomy Libraries, Social Science Reference Library, Social Work Library, Steenbock Agriculture and Life Sciences Library.
The AUL also oversees the development and operations of instructional and educational support services, outreach and engagement services, reserves operations, reference and information services, facilities and space planning and management, and access services including circulation, stacks management, and security.
Mentorship and management of staff is critical to the success of this organization. The AUL for Public Services has broad responsibilities across the GLS, and oversees a staff of approximately 90 FTE (primarily indirect reports), a supplies and equipment budget of approximately $200,000 and a student budget of approximately $720,000.

The UW-Madison Libraries is one of the ten largest public university library systems in the United States. Library collections and services are decentralized and coordinated through the leadership of the General Library System (GLS), which provides technical infrastructure, support for acquisitions, and the integration of campus library services. The General Library System with a budget of more than $24.7 million and a collection budget of approximately $8 million administers fifteen libraries including Memorial Library, the largest library in the State of Wisconsin, and other specialized and professional libraries. The overall campus libraries' collection budget is nearly $11 million.
Responsibilities and Duties
Reports directly to the Vice Provost for Libraries and University Librarian to develop, communicate, implement and evaluate strategic directions and priorities for the campus library environment that align with the mission and vision of the university
Collaborates with other AULs and the University Librarian to re-envision and realign library services and the organizational structure
Directs, manages and supervises library staff and budgets
Engages in campus-wide initiatives with library governance groups, consortia partnerships, and regional, state, national, and international organizations to ensure that the UW-Madison community has access to high-quality public services and programs. Fosters existing and new partnerships in support of the library's goal to expand its reach through public engagement
Provides leadership consistent with the Libraries strategic priorities and manage these efforts with integrity, innovation, and commitment to service excellence
