Professor of African Languages & Literature
Official Title:
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR(C30NN) or ASSISTANT PROFESSOR(C40NN)
Degree and area of specialization:
Ph.D. in second language acquisition, applied linguistics, or closely related field with specialization in African languages.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Ph.D. required prior to start of appointment. Preference will be given to candidates whose scholarship and/or teaching focus on Swahili, but other African languages will be considered,
e.g., Yoruba, or Zulu. Candidates must demonstrate ability to conduct research in his/her area of specialization and have a native or near-native fluency in African language.

Candidates for a tenured appointment must have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
Principal duties:
Teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, student advising, conduct scholarly research and perform University and professional service as appropriate.
  Additional Information:
 Ideal candidate should be familiar with the latest theoretical trends and research methods in SLA and be able to assume a leadership role in training and supervising TAs and other language instructors for multiple languages that are offered in the department. Successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and conduct scholarly research in his/her area of specialization.
