| Job Summary: | This position supports the Department of Geography and the six sub-units, History of Cartography, State Cartographer's Office, Robinson Map Library, GIS Certificate Program, Cartography Laboratory and the Science Hall IT/Helpdesk. This objective-level position manages all payroll and benefits policies and procedures at the UW-Madison Department of Geography. The Department of Geography has approximately 100 faculty, academic staff, classified staff, graduate students, student hourlies, LTE's. Duties of this position include management of unclassified, classified and students and the fringe benefits program. When administering the payroll and benefits for the department, the PAY & BEN SPEC ADV is responsible for interpreting and following guidelines, policies and procedures of the UW as well as international visa policy. This position is responsible for administering the hiring and recruitment process for short-term staff and graduate assistants including reader/graders. Compiling, updating and maintaining personnel databases is required with responsibility for keeping the department's employee personnel files. This position functions as the Effort Coordinator for the department and reports effort on all department sponsored projects on a quarterly basis. As Purchase Card Site Manager, final audit of all card purchases and payment authorization is required. The PAY & BEN SPEC ADV also provides backup support to the Financial Specialist and Academic Department Supervisor. This position functions at an objective level; work is performed under general supervision and requires a high level of problem-solving and interpersonal skill.
