| Job Summary: | Support the Survey of the Health of Wisconsin (SHOW) research project (within the Department of Population Health Sciences in the School of Medicine and Public Health at UW-Madison) by performing a variety of laboratory activities. |
Goals and Worker Activities
| A. | 55% | Perform a variety of laboratory activities, including advanced activities, in support of the SHOW research project. |
| | 1. | Assist in the traning of entry level technicians and field team staff in the performance of the laboratory procedures. |
| | 2. | Review the established manual of operations for the laboratory processing and present modifications and updates to field team manager for the PI/Scientific Commitee review. |
| | 3. | Review processes for biorepository storage and classification. |
| | 4. | Assist with management of freezers (housed in multiple locations) which are being used for the tissue banking of the specimens. |
| | 5. | Complete data entry and tracking of banked specimens. |

| B. | 45% | Perform a variety of standard laboratory testing, including some advanced activities. |
| | 1. | Obtain blood specimens. |
| | 2. | Receive samples to be assayed. |
| | 3. | Prepare specimens for shipment. |
| | 4. | Perform equipment maintenance/adjustments. |
| | 5. | Perform daily instrument set-up, calibration, quality control and shutdown procedures |
| | 6. | Maintain lab records |
| | 7. | Guide and direct other lab personnel |

Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to perform the skill of drawing blood, and obtaining urine and saliva samples on subjects enrolled in the SHOW (Survey of the Health of Wisconsin) research study.
- Abiility to obtain the samples following Good Clinical Practice procedures, utilizing accuracy, safety and quality procedures and equipment.
- Ability to assure that samples are dated, labeled, processed and stored/delivered as the operations manual dictates. (The samples will be centrifuged, aliquoted into individual cryovials, stored and recorded.)
- Ability to engage successfully in the quality assurance review of procedures and data entry to assure accuracy in laboratory records.
- Ability to successfully complete Human Subjects in Research certification online course provided by the employer.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in similar activities.
