About the New Position Vacancy Listing System
This database contains Position Vacancy Listings (PVLs) for open Faculty, Academic Staff (professional positions unique to higher education) and Limited positions (higher level administrative positions) available at UW-Madison. They can be accessed by using key words, by broad functional groups (e.g., Research, Instruction, Library Services) or date of posting or revision.
Each PVL contains the PVL number, contact person, working title, official title, appointment type (academic staff, faculty, limited), full-time salary, pay basis ("annual" means 12-month; "academic" means 9-month), percent appointment, date available, end date (if any), application deadline date, degree required, experience required and the principal duties.
FREQUENCY OF UPDATES: The information in the database is updated nightly, Sunday through Thursday. Updates may not be available until the following morning.
LENGTH OF POSTING: The standard minimum posting time for PVLs ranges from 2 weeks to 4 weeks (depending on salary level) for academic staff and limited positions and 2 months for faculty positions.
APPLICATION DEADLINE DATE: Applicants submitting a letter and resume by this date are insured of being considered for the position. However, departments may continue to accept applications beyond this date. To the best of our knowledge, all PVLs listed on this database are still open. If the deadline date for a position you are interested in has passed, you may want to call the contact person to inquire if they are still accepting applications.
HOW TO APPLY: Unless additional information is provided on the PVL, you should send a resume/vita and cover letter (include reference to PVL Number) directly to the contact person listed on the PVL. There are no application forms to complete.
CONFIDENTIALITY: Unless confidentiality is requested in writing, information regarding applicants must be released upon request. Finalists cannot be guaranteed confidentiality.
QUESTIONS: Questions about specific jobs should be directed to the contact person listed on the PVL. General questions about unclassified employment may be directed to the Academic Personnel Office; phone: (608) 263-2511; FAX (608) 262-5203.
NOTE: The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires the University to verify the identity and work authorization of the successful applicant. Any offer of employment is contingent upon verification.
