HIRING ORGANIZATION: UW Madison-Police Department. This recruitment will be used to fill vacancies within the UW Madison Campus. Applications will be accepted continuously and completed application materials will be integrated into the eligibility register. Tenure in the employment eligibility register will be for six months, after which applicant names will be purged.
SALARY: $38,772 per year plus an excellent benefits package*. A 12-month probationary period is required. This job title is included in the Law Enforcement Bargaining Unit of the Wisconsin State Employee’s Union. JOB DUTIES: Engage in formalized problem solving and initiate crime prevention measures whenever possible. Write clear and concise reports based on daily police activity. Use a variety of patrol techniques and strategies to ensure the safety and security of all persons and property on the UW Campus. Take proper enforcement action for traffic violations and any other crimes observed. Make criminal arrests; provide basic first aid to victims and ensure compliance with all laws of the U.W. Administrative Code and the Wisconsin State Statutes.Must be able to effectively and safely operate an emergency vehicle and when appropriate, use force within the guidelines set forth by the State of Wisconsin and UW-Madison Police Department policy.
WELL-QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WILL HAVE A TWO-YEAR OR FOUR-YEAR DEGREE IN A RELATED ACADEMIC DISCIPLINE, OR LESB CERTIFIED, OR EQUIVALENT.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Ability to communicate with and be respectful of a very diverse community of individuals; ability to observe and recall facts and details about persons, events, accident scenes, physical conditions and human behaviors; ability to make appropriate quick decisions based on training and experience; ability to read and understand complex printed material; ability to interact with a diverse population in a variety of law enforcement situations. In addition, law enforcement officers must obtain at least 60 college credits or an associate degree within five years of inital law enforcement employment. A valid Wisconsin driver’s license; at least 18 years old; good character; good driving record; NO unpardoned adult felony convictions; NO convictions for domestic violence; and “free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition which might adversely affect performance” as a law enforcement officer.
