HIRING ORGANIZATION: UW-Madison currently has two vacancies. The School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) is currently recruiting a Histology Technician-Entry/Senior position to work in a high volume central histopathology laboratory. There also is a Histology Technician Senior vacancy in the Research Animal Resources Comparative Pathology Laboratory, a high volume diagnostic laboratory that provides a broad range of veterinary diagnostic testing services.
SALARY: Starting pay at entry level is $13.626 per hour; senior level $14.744 per hour, plus excellent benefits. Positions are included in pay schedules/ranges 06-11 and 06-12 respectively. A six-month probationary period is required.
JOB DUTIES: Prepare and process tissues received from a variety of sources to produce high quality histologic slides employing a variety of histotechniques. This position performs both routine, special staining procedures, immunohistochemistry, utilizes computer to record and retrieve specimen data, and performs other routine laboratory activities. JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: Educational background and experience to perform standard and recently developed histotechnology laboratory procedures. Requires knowledge of the operation of a cryostat; principles of paraffin embedding, tissue sectioning, hematoxylin and eosin staining; histochemical special staining techniques; immunohistochemical techniques; tissue processing requirements and techniques; chemical solution preparation; laboratory quality control practices, data collection and analysis; and basic anatomy of mammals. Basic computer skills. Good communication and organizational skills and ability to work within a team setting.
