HIRING ORGANIZATION: The examination will be given in both English and Spanish. The register established from this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time vacancies during the next six-months on the UW-Madison campus. Vacancies currently exist at University Housing and the Wisconsin Union.
SALARY: Starting salary for Food Service Assistant 2 is $11.715 per hour and Food Service Assistant 3 is $12.639 per hour, plus excellent benefits such as paid holidays, paid vacation after six-months, health and life insurance. These positions are in pay range/schedule 03-09 and 03-10 and represented by the Blue Collar and Non-Building Trades bargaining unit. A six-month probationary period is required.

JOB DUTIES: Food Service Assistant 2: Assist with quantity food production; perform breakfast or grill cooking; provide cafeteria or retail food service, perform cashier duties; perform related sanitation work; perform heavy manual duties; maintain food safety and sanitation standards; and maintain good customer service. Food Service Assistant 3: Independently responsible for a distinct and specialized food distribution function, or function as lead worker to assist a supervisor in coordinating and monitoring work activities of assistants; maintain and observe quality, sanitation and safety standards; perform food production support or food distribution; develop and promote good customer relations.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Food production methods and procedures, sanitation and safety standards and methods; operation and maintenance of institutional equipment; portion control and measurements; mathematical computations; quality control; inventory control; effective interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to read and interpret writing information; ability to guide and direct the work of others; ability to lift up 50 pounds and stand for an extended period of time.

APPLICATION INFORMATION: You may take this exam online at the UW-Madison Welcome Center, 21 N. Park Street, 5th Floor, Madison, Wisconsin. Contact Customer Access Center at (608) 265-2257 to schedule an appointment. Online testing is available during normal business hours. Applicants will have 4 hours to complete the exam. You may only take this exam once in 6 months. Applicants must bring 2 forms of identification to the exam including a photo ID and signature. Metered parking or a parking pass is available on the main floor of the building. Madison Metro Bus 6, 7, 13, 47 and 85 stop in front of the building. We will provide special accommodations for any test taker with a verified disability that affects your ability to take employment tests.
